Mercedes Releases SLS Information!!!

AMG engineers have been hard at work during Europe’s foulest winter in years perfecting Mercedes-Benz’s forthcoming SLS Gullwing supercar.
Firstly, it will attempt to usurp Woking’s technical mastery and SLR legacy, and secondly, the SLS – featuring a gullwing door configuration – carries the memory of the 1950s 300SL, arguably one of the greatest cars ever.
SLR production peters out in May this year, thereafter Mercedes-Benz is set to end its partnership with McLaren on a nostalgic note with an 75 unit Stirling Moss commemorative SLR speedster production run which tools out by June.

As gleaned form the images, SLS configuration is a traditional, front-engined, rear-wheel drive set-up. Although AMG’s venerable 6.2l V8 nestles snugly under the elongated hood, the engine, and entire drivetrain in fact, has been significantly reengineered.

Producing 420kW and 650Nm, the SLS spec V8 benefits from a new magnesium intake, featuring eight individual velocity stacks, fed by two electronically controlled throttle plates. Dry-sump lubrication has enabled AMG engineers to place the engine as low as possible in the
SLS chassis, behind the front axle centre point for optimal weight distribution.

Performance claims are in line with the outgoing McLaren car, with the SLS sprinting from 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds, and topping out around 315km/h.
